In order to tell you where The Undem Family Adventures started, I need to take you back to my childhood. Hi, my name is Lexie, and I’m the momma behind the blog and content creation for The Undem Family Adventures.
I grew up the oldest daughter of a young mother and had a lot of instability in my life. There were lots of fights, many, many moves, and a whole lot of chaos. I would throw myself headfirst into activities to escape from the noise, and one of those things was church. Fast forward into middle school, I’m attending all sorts of Nazerene church events—lockins, weekend trips, sporting events, camps, etc.
It was through those church events that I met my best friend, Shane. He supported me through everything in my life. Since he was a year behind me in school, and we lived about 3 hours apart, we stayed as friends all through high school. When we were both in college, we grew closer and had begun to joke that if “we were 35 and not married, we would just elope.â€
Eventually, those jokes developed into something more. You see, I had always loved Shane. I just didn’t know when that love shifted from safety and comfort from a friend to romantic love. I lived for our video chats and drove across the state to spend a weekend together. It was a big move—potentially sacrificing one of my best friends for a chance at dating.
As it turns out, taking that chance would change my life in ways that I wouldn’t even have begun to imagine. It wasn’t all sunshine and roses—I was very toxic and had a LOT of healing to do, but Shane was patient. He was kind to my heart when I wasn’t always kind in return.
After 8 months of dating, Shane transferred schools for wrestling and to be closer to me, and we moved in together about 5 months after he transferred to Dickinson. We had a lot of bumps in the road, and I sure tried to sabotage our relationship–because all good things come to an end, right? So I might as well ruin them before it happens anyway. HA! I learned that Shane didn’t make promises lightly, and when he told me he was going to marry me someday—he meant it.
We purchased our home in December of 2015, the same month that I graduated college. Shortly after, we rescued our first dog, Nikita, a german shepherd that we had 5 wonderful years with. About six months later, we rescued a mutt—Benelli (who lives with my sister now).
After almost 4 years together, we got engaged, tied the knot in 2018, and grew our family with a tiny human in 2020. Shortly after giving birth, I felt a lot of the pressure to be a good mom, to do ALL the things, and I felt like I needed an outlet. I started posting more on Instagram, KINDA started this blog, and just kept winging it. Fast forward a few months, and I met Mariah with @pickingdaisiesblog, and little did I know how much this wonderful human would change my life.
The Undem Family Adventures is only moving up from here—and all your love and support, your likes, your comments, your saves, and your shares mean THE WORLD to me. Our family appreciates you being a part of the community, and we hope that you find love, support, and positivity being here.
