New to Bismarck, Hungry for Everything

We moved to Bismarck from Dickinson this summer, and I made myself a very official, very delicious promise. I’m going to try every local fave this town has to offer. Dickinson is a food truck town through and through. Having this many sit-down spots feels like someone handed me the keys to a brand new city.

If you’ve been Googling “best places to eat in Bismarck ND” right alongside me, welcome to the Bismarck Local Faves mission. Every stop gets an honest review, what to order, real prices and whether my family gives it the thumbs up.

My TikTok had been relentlessly serving me gyro videos. So when I heard about Habibi Bowl & Gyro in Bismarck, I knew exactly where my next solo lunch was going.

This post is a paid partnership with Habibi Bowl & Gyro. As always, every opinion here is my own.

Where Is Habibi Bowl & Gyro in Bismarck?

Habibi Bowl & Gyro sits at 625 S Washington St, Suite C, in the same strip as Runnings. If you know where Runnings is, you know where Habibi is. Easy parking, easy in and out, which matters a lot when you’re wrangling kids or squeezing lunch into a workday.

Inside, the space is bright and clean. There’s a little red booth by the window, and that’s exactly where I parked myself with my tray.

The story behind it is a good one. According to a KFYR feature from their opening, the owner moved to Bismarck from London to open a restaurant. He brought a chef, plus his sauce and spice recipes, with him. You can taste that care in everything they make.

What to Order at Habibi Bowl & Gyro (Straight From the Owner)

Since it was my first time, I did what I always tell you to do at a new spot: I asked the owner what to get.

He didn’t hesitate. “My favorite is the gyro and chicken over rice. That’s almost everyone’s favorite.” So that’s what I got, along with a falafel appetizer and a shawarma to try later.

Watching him build the bowl was half the fun. Fresh, well-marinated chicken and gyro meat (which is lamb) go over rice. Then you pick your toppings: lettuce, cucumber, onion, tomatoes, radish, green olives, hummus and a pickled cabbage that I am now completely, unapologetically obsessed with. I said yes to almost everything.

The House-Made Sauces Are the Real Reason to Go

If you only remember one thing from this post, make it this: at Habibi, the sauces are the star. They make every single one in house.

  • Tzatziki: cool and creamy
  • House garlic sauce: exactly as garlicky as you’re hoping
  • Mild chili sauce: and I mean mild. Even if you’re spice-averse, you can handle this one.
  • Mint sauce: made with cilantro “and something secret.” I could literally drink a whole bottle of it.

Then there’s the Habibi sauce, which is all of their signature sauces mixed together. They make it for the falafel, and it’s nonnegotiable.

My pro tip: Ask for everything on the side so you can taste each one on its own first. I tried my bowl plain, then with sauce. The sauce takes it from good to “why haven’t I been coming here every week.”

My Honest Review of Every Dish I Tried

Gyro & Chicken Over Rice ($16.99)

Gyro and chicken over rice bowl with house-made sauces at Habibi Bowl & Gyro in Bismarck, ND

Big portion, tender meat, crisp veggies. I liked both meats, but the lamb has the best seasoning. This is the bowl I’d send any first-timer for. In my book, it’s a top contender for the best gyro in Bismarck.

Falafel, 4 Pieces ($5.99)

Crispy on the outside, soft and green inside, and light enough that it doesn’t sit heavy. Dip it in the Habibi sauce. Trust me.

Gyro & Chicken Shawarma ($15.99)

On Habibi’s menu, the shawarma is the wrapped sandwich version. I had to ask how to eat it without wearing it (open the top and keep it wrapped). I got everything on it. My exact words on camera were “that is so bomb,” and I stand by them wholeheartedly. Generous portions and great pricing for what you get. Literally my favorite thing. SO GOOD!!

Is Habibi Bowl & Gyro Kid Friendly? We Brought the Whole Crew

The solo lunch was so good that I brought Shane and the kids back less than two weeks later. This time we went straight for the new menu items:

  • Habibi Sliders: the signature sliders and the first thing we tore into
  • Pocket Shawarma: gyro meat and chicken tucked into a pocket. This was my favorite of the new items.
  • Loaded Fries: fries piled high with meat and sauce, plus a little spice on top. I needed a drink, and it was worth it.
